The Colts may be the only playoff caliber team in their division but they have a quarterback that can elevate them into the top tier of the NFL.
The transition from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck was seamless for the Indianapolis Colts. Two straight playoff appearances have Colts fans feeling very confident in their QB and head coach Chuck Pagano. One can only imagine how well the Colts would have done in 2013 if the team was entirely healthy.
With Reggie Wayne returning and the acquisition of Hakeem Nicks and rookie Donte Moncrief, the Colts receiving corps looks as strong as its been since the last two years with Peyton Manning at the helm.
The running game is what has held the team back though. After trading a 1st round pick for Trent Richardson, the rushing attack still did not greatly improve. In fact, the Colts have not had a 1,000 yard rusher since 2007. The Colts may not be able to reach that next level without a good runner to take the burden off Andrew Luck.
The defense though remains a question mark – the Colts finished 9th in points allowed but lost Antoine Bethea to free agency. The addition of D’Qwell Jackson will assist, but the defense needs to find an identity before the season starts in order to make a real impact.
The Colts will report to training camp in Anderson, Indiana on July 23rd.
