Player of the Year thanks Sir Alex Ferguson for signing him.
On this day in 2011, Manchester United shelled out the best part of £20m to bring a 20-year-old Spanish goalkeeper to Old Trafford.
That goalkeeper, David de Gea, has since made 132 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.
De Gea won the Premier League title in his second season at the club.
He was named as the club’s Player of the Year earlier this summer, after being one of the few players to impress last term – United’s first ever Premier League campaign without Sir Alex Ferguson in charge.
De Gea today thanked Ferguson for signing him in a tweet, which you can see below.
Today makes 3 years of one of my happiest days of my life. Thanks Sir Alex, thanks @manutd pic.twitter.com/aM43rMOFHZ
