Arsenal have been linked with numerous players this summer, but one name who appeared to be cropping up again and again when it came to a possible move to the Emirates Stadium was Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, but according to reports from the Daily Star the French international is now ready to agree a new contract at the Bernabeu.
It had been suggested that Benzema was reluctant to agree a new deal with Carlo Ancelotti’s side because he didn’t feel that he was valued as highly as the likes of Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but if these reports are correct then the two parties seem to have been able to overcome their differences.
Benzema is currently enjoying a fruitful 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, possibly explaining Real’s increased urgency to try and tie up a deal with the former Olympique Lyonnais centre forward who is still in the running for the Golden Boot at the tournament.
Arsenal have been looking for a striker to provide competition for Benzema’s France teammate Olivier Giroud – but it looks as though they may now be turning to another member of Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus squad in the form of QPR striker Loic Remy.
