Midfielder wants to continue playing under the Special One at Stamford Bridge.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso wants to join Jose Mourinho at Chelsea next season, according to The Independent.
Alonso, 31, is one of the few players in the Real Madrid dressing room to have formed a close bond with Mourinho and is keen to follow the Portuguese coach to Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho is widely expected to leave Real this summer and return to west London, where he won two league titles and an FA Cup between 2004 and 2007.
World Cup and European Championship winner Alonso is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to respond to Real’s offer of a two-year extension.
The playmaker, who spent five years at Anfield and still has close ties to the club, is delaying his decision to see if Mourinho remains at head-coach next season – but it is widely understood the self-anointed Special One will depart in the summer, with PSG’s Carlo Ancelotti his likely replacement.
Alonso may wait until his contract runs down and leave the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer but it’s understood Los Blancos want to recoup some money for the star, who is expected to finish his career at his first club, Real Sociedad, but has indicated a willingness for one more spell abroad.
