With the news that Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud could be set for a potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Gunners’ need for a new signing upfront is greater than ever.
The north London giants have been linked with some new additions in that area throughout the summer, but while bringing in an upgrade on Giroud would have been a luxury, a replacement for him in that position is a necessity after an unconvincing performance from Alexis Sanchez in that position against Everton.
Youngsters Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell could be in contention for more games, but would represent a real gamble for Arsenal – one they may not be able to afford as their biggest rivals Liverpool and Manchester United prepare to sign big names such as Mario Balotelli and Angel Di Maria, respectively.
