Mata is expected to depart Stamford Bridge in the near future.
The long expected departure of Juan Mata from Chelsea looks to edging nearer as both Atletico Madrid and Manchester United prepare bids for the Spaniard, according to the Mirror.
The Red Devils are desperate for creative talent in midfield and are set to offer the Blues £20m for the attacking midfielder.
However, the west London club will be keen to avoid selling Mata to a Premier League rival and are likely to be more open to Atletico’s proposal of a loan deal.
After being voted the side’s best player for the past two seasons, the 25-year-old has endured prolonged spells out of the team this term since Jose Mourinho returned as manager.
Mata has started just 14 matches in all competitions in 2013/14 and has scored one goal and provided three assists.
Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle and Willian are all seemingly ahead of the Spain international in the pecking order for a place in attacking midfield and the playmaker is becoming increasingly frustrated.
It’s thought that Mata’s current side value the midfielder at around £30m and were only interested in negotiating with United is it were a swap deal involving Wayne Rooney.
With that now looking highly unlikely, Atleti’s offer of taking the Spanish star on-loan would probably be more attractive to all involved.
Mata has a strong relationship with the fans at Stamford Bridge and would not want to destroy that by heading to Old Trafford, whilst playing in Madrid would be a huge draw.
Diego Simeone’s men have been in fine form this campaign and are currently the nearest rivals to Barcelona in challenging for the title.
