The Premier League’s leading clubs are set for a £30 million transfer battle which will shatter the world-record fee for a teenage footballer according to the Daily Mail.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are all reportedly chasing Everton’s 17-year-old midfield sensation Ross Barkley.
Despite the Toffees’ hopes of hanging on to their starlet, their current financial situation will force them into considering whether or not to accept, should such a huge offer arrive.
With several sources within the club tipping the youngster to be even better than former Everton ace Wayne Rooney, manager David Moyes is keen to keep hold of Barkley for now.
‘Evertonians have not got an awful lot to be excited about at the moment so Ross gives everybody something to look at and cling on to,’ he said.
‘But I will have to pick and choose him at the right times. It is not just because of his age but also because of his lack of football.’
It is also reported that Barkley’s future could be a key factor in whether or not Moyes decides to sign a two-year extension to his own contract, with the tactician against selling his brightest prospects.
