The Blues will keep trying to secure their no.1 transfer target…
Chelsea will make Manchester United a bid close to £40m in a desperate attempt to secure Wayne Rooney before the end of the month, reports the Fulham Chronicle.
With less than two weeks to go before the transfer window slams shut, Chelsea will try one more time to prise Rooney away from Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old England forward came off the bench in United’s 4-1 opening day away win at Swansea, but cut a dejected figure despite laying on two assists for his teammates.
New United boss David Moyes has insisted the striker is not for sale, and the club already rejected two bids from Chelsea for the star. The player is unhappy at United following a poor last season by his standards, and perplexed by comments Moyes made that indicated he only saw the player as important as a backup to Robin Van Persie.
Chelsea started Fernando Torres in an opening day win at home to Hull City, and also have Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba in reserve. Rooney would no doubt become an automatic first-choice starter though, and would become a focal point of the side, something he badly desires.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that his side will do everything to secure a new striker, but his preference for Rooney has not been made a secret of.
“We will try until the last day to try and add a new striker to the squad. It’s not ethical to name players that belong to other clubs,” said the 50-year-old Portuguese manager.
