8) Gael Clichy (Manchester City)
Gael Clichy first broke onto the scene at Arsenal in their Invincibles season of 2003/04, when as a little-known teenage left-back, he really shone in limited appearances in the first-team, showing great potential and looking like another of Arsene Wenger’s inspired finds.
The French defender arguably never quite lived up to his potential, gaining a reputation for losing concentration at key moments at the back as well as providing almost no end product going forward (it took Clichy over five years to score his first goal for the club, and it was one of two in total in over 260 appearances).
Still, it was a blow for the club’s fans when he made the move to Manchester City in 2011, when he immediately won another Premier League title with the Etihad Stadium big-spenders.
