The Celtics announced that they will hold a pre-sale for playoff tickets on Tuesday where fans can gain early access to purchase them by signing up to be on a mailing list.
Naturally, this isn’t as absurd as it may seem on first glance, as ultimately even though the post-season is not yet secured for the Celtics, they need to start the process of selling tickets now like other teams in a similar situation have also done.
If the race comes down to the final game of the regular season, the sales team within the franchise would have such a short turnaround to get tickets out that it may lead to low attendances for the home games which would not be an ideal situation for the players, organisation or fans.
As a result, they are merely thinking ahead and taking the necessary steps in the process in case the Celtics do indeed make it through to the playoffs.
Boston currently sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with a 35-42 record, and that leaves them just a game above the Indiana Pacers and Miami Heat.
The Charlotte Hornets are just a game-and-a-half back, and so that trio of teams will likely battle it out all the way to the wire with the Celtics having a difficult schedule to finish off the season.
Meanwhile, there is also room to move up with the Milwaukee Bucks and Brooklyn Nets not that far ahead, and so it promises to be an entertaining climax to the campaign which will for Celtics fans hopefully result in playoff basketball.
