Neymar turned down Chelsea and Manchester City to sign for Barca…
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has revealed that £50m signing Neymar rejected a whole host of top European clubs to sign for the Catalan giants, reports Goal.
The prodigal Brazilian eventually joined Barca this summer, and has settled in well, helping his side win all eight of their opening La Liga matches, and both of their Champions League group fixtures.
Although he hasn’t scored many goals, his skill and speed has caused countless problems for opposing defences, and fans of football everywhere are keen to see Lionel Messi return from injury and link up with the 21-year-old once again.
Rosell reckons the chance to play with the world’s best player played a big part of Neymar’s decision to turn down the advances of the Premier League giants.
“The key was that the player wanted to come to Barcelona. It was not about knowing how to negotiate; he wanted to be play next to Messi and the rest of the team,” said Rosell.
“Everything was based on that despite him having offers from Manchester City, Chelsea, Bayern and Real Madrid.
“Neymar’s a very humble, friendly guy, a great team-mate and a great player. He is not selfish on the ball, which is just what we want in a football player. Has has settled perfectly into the squad.”
The Brazilian has scored three goals and registered six assists, and is all but destined to become the greatest player in the world.
