Bayern Munich’s Mandzukic is a target for both Premier League sides.
With the deal that will see Robert Lewandowski join Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund seemingly as good as done, Arsenal and Manchester United are now competing for Mario Madzukic, according to the Daily Express.
Lewandowski’s current contract at the Westfalenstadion expires at the end of this season and it’s been apparent for some time that the striker will make the move to rivals Bayern.
It means that their current forward at the Allianz Arena, Mandzukic, is likely to be short on playing time and both the Gunners and United are targeting a swoop for the Croatian.
Juventus are also thought to be in the hunt for the 27-year-old, who has scored 13 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions this term.
However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists Mandzukic is not for sale, although whether or not the Croatia international will be happy with appearances from the bench is unclear.
Pep Guardiola is almost certain to favour the much admired Lewandowski over the current No.9 and of course the Spaniard is also happy playing with no strikers at all.
It’s the north London club that are in most need of attacking support, with an injury to Olivier Giroud in the festive period highlighting just how little resources Arsene Wenger has up-front currently.
Yet Red Devils boss David Moyes has been an admirer of Mandzukic for some time, even trying to bring the attacker to England whilst in charge of Everton.
With Javier Hernandez linked with a move away from Old Trafford, there could be a place in the squad and Wenger and Moyes could go head-to-head over a player for the first time.
