Szczesny’s opportunity to win the Golden Glove slips away.
If Wojciech Szczesny had kept a clean-sheet for Arsenal in the Premier League tie with Norwich City the goalkeeper would have been awarded the Golden Glove award.
However, despite the fact the Pole has been a stalwart in the starting XI all season, manager Arsene Wenger has decided to drop the 24-year-old for the final game of the campaign in favour of Lukasz Fabianski.
This tactic is thought to have been introduced due to the impending FA Cup final tie with Hull City on May 17, in which Wenger has another decision to make about who will be between the sticks.
Fabianski has been given the gloves for the previous rounds of the competition and therefore many think the 29-year-old should continue in the final.
However, like in 2002 – when David Seaman was brought back in for the final despite not playing in the other rounds – others are saying the usual No.1 Szczesny should start.
Either way the decision to block the latter’s chances of lifting the top ‘keeper award in England seems a little harsh from Wenger.
