Former Gunner tweets about Fabregas’ Chelsea move.
Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon took to Twitter on Friday morning to express his views on the controversial transfer of former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea.
The Spanish playmaker, who spent much of his early career with the Gunners and who captained the side in his final three years with the club, yesterday sealed a return to the Premier League from La Liga giants Barcelona, joining Chelsea for a fee in the region of £30m.
The move has been met by much despair by Arsenal fans, but Dixon believes Arsene Wenger was right not to take up the option to re-sign the player, as the club already have a number of similar options in their squad at the moment.
It is thought that the presence of the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil persuaded Wenger to focus on strengthening other areas of his squad, but many still feel that the decision to let Fabregas join a major rival will prove to be a mistake.
Dixon admits that while he is a big fan of the 27-year-old, he understands that the Gunners currently have to prioritise signings in other positions.
“I loved Fabregas. I feel we had the best of him,” said the ITV pundit.
“We don’t need another midfielder like him. Good player but priority elsewhere. Move on.”
