Arsenal are expecting to sign long time target Chis Smalling in January as talks with Manchester United over a £10m deal are set to begin in the coming days, according to the Metro.

The Gunners almost snapped up the centre-back in 2010 before he originally left for Old Trafford before trying again to bring him to the club during the summer transfer window.
A deal couldn’t be hammered out in time last month, but reports are now suggesting that the move could finally get the go ahead as United are ready to let the 24-year-old leave the club.
It’s claimed that Arsenal are set to offer £10million for the England international and expect it will be enough to do business, with Louis van Gaal happy to move him on.
Arsene Wenger has mode no secret of his desire to add more defensive reinforcements, and Smalling’s versatility has been a major selling point to thew manager.
