Yet another stopper linked to Arsenal, but this one’s a bit special…
Arsenal could sensationally move for Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, according to the Daily Mail.
The Spanish no.1 is widely regarded as one of the best stoppers in the world, but bizarrely lost his place in the Real Madrid starting line-up to Diego Lopez last season, under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
Madrid fans thought this was because of personal problems between the two, and that Casillas would be restored to the starting line-up this season. However, new boss Carlo Ancelotti started Diego Lopez in the opening game of La Liga, leaving many questioning whether the legendary stopper has a future at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal lost their opening Premier League match of the season 3-1 to Aston Villa, leaving fans desperate for the team to strengthen in more or less every position. Wojciech Szczęsny has shown glimpses of his undoubted ability, but Arsen Wenger has gorwn tired of his handling errors, and will look to replace him before the end of the month.
In the past few days, the Gunners have outrageously been linked to three goalkeepers – including Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic, Valencia’s Vicente Guaita and Espanyol’s Kiko Casilla.
A deal for Casillas though, would blow any of the other potential keeper transfers out of the water.
The 32-year-old is one of the most coveted players of al time. He has won a World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, and a variety of La Liga and Champions League titles with Los Blancos.
