But Di Maria wants to stay and fight for his place at the Bernabeu…
Arsenal are desperate to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria and have lodged a £25m bid, but face competition from Fenerbahce, reports Spanish publication Marca.
With only a week left of the transfer window, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to finalise a deal for a world-class attacker, a midfielder, and a goalkeeper.
His prime targets are Newcastle’s keeper and star midfielder, Tim Krul and Yohan Cabaye, and a blockbuster move for Madrid’s Argentinian winger Di Maria.
Gareth’s Bale imminent arrival at the Bernabeu means the previously unsellable Di Maria is now actually surplus to requirements. With Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil, Isco and the incoming Bale fighting for the wide spots, Madrid want to cash in on the 26-year-old flyer, who scored nine and assisted 17 goals last term.
Although Madrid would be tempted to do a deal at £25m, the player himself is happy in La Liga, and has no intention of leaving. Whether the Gunners can persuade him that their project is worthy of his talents remains to be seen.
It is unlikely Di Maria would be interested in moving to Turkish side Fenerbahce, the team Arsenal recently thrashed 3-0 in their Champions League qualifier.
If the Gunners complete a deal for the flyer, it will smash their transfer record, and appease miserable fans after an unsuccessful summer in the transfer window.
