Young midfielder joins Malaga after tough first year on Merseyside.
Liverpool have sent midfielder Luis Alberto out on a season-long loan to Malaga.
The 21-year-old cost the Reds a fee in the region of £8m when he signed from Sevilla last summer.
However, he struggled to cope with English football and made just nine Premier League appearances, all of which came off the subs’ bench.
The loan move may not signal the end of Alberto’s Liverpool career. He still has four years left to run on his current contract and a good season in La Liga could persuade the Reds to give him another chance at Anfield.
Alberto has only started one top-flight league game in his entire career to date – for Sevilla in the 2010-11 season.
He will get the opportunity to play alongside former Manchester City frontman Roque Santa Cruz at Malaga, who finished 11th in Spain’s top division last season.
