The Hammers want Lukaku at Upton Park next season.
Chelsea have some unlikely fans in their pursuit of Napoli’s Edison Cavani as West Ham United cheer on the deal so they can then sign Romelu Lukaku on-loan, according to the Mirror.
The Blues have fallen behind in the race to land the Uruguayan as Paris Saint-Germain emerged as favourites on Tuesday with a colossal £50m bid.
However, the Hammers are hoping Chelsea get their act together when it comes to Cavani and will be happier than most to see one of the planet’s most deadly goal-scorers arrive in the Premier League.
This is because their wish to sign 20-year-old Lukaku on-loan would become all the more likely, with the Belgian wanting first team football and the Uruguay international’s arrival making that all the more unlikely at Stamford Bridge.
It’s certainly a long shot from the Irons as returning Blues boss Jose Mourinho has already outlined his intent to give Lukaku an opportunity at the club this season, following a successful spell at West Bromwich Albion in 2012/13.
Yet with Belgium looking like qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil next summer the striker wants to ensure that he is playing regularly this term in order to have a chance of making the team.
West Ham view the powerful forward as the perfect acquisition to join recent £15m signing Andy Carroll in the attacking line.
This is emphasised by the fact that the east London club look likely to miss out on Vitesse Arnhem hit-man Wilfried Bony, with their £10.2m bid having already been rejected and league rivals Swansea City also in the hunt.
