Theo Walcott says Mesut Ozil has been a brilliant influence for Arsenal both on and off the pitch since signing for the Gunners on transfer deadline day.
Theo Walcott says Mesut Ozil has made a massive impact for Arsenal already – both in the dressing room and on the pitch.
The Germany international moved to Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day for a cool £42.4 million, instantly lifting the Gunners, and Walcott extolled the virtues of his new team-mate to the Times.
“I thought it’d be a dream to play with him,” said Walcott.
“When I knew we’d signed him, I just thought it would help so much. It would double the amount of chances [the forwards] got.”
“He can spot a pass from anywhere,” continued Walcott.
“Santi [Cazorla] and him are linking up very well. He is going to create so many chances; he already has, in the short time he’s been here.”
“When you sign a player like Özil, that gives a message to the whole Barclays Premier League and to the Champions League.”
“It tells everyone we want to push on, and a lot of players have stepped up their game.
“It shows people we are not a selling club, and if we do well with players like that, it will attract even more. You get something more out of players when you make top-class signings.
When you are at a top club, you expect big players to be there. You do not want to be relaxed and think your position is secure.
“You want to be pushed.”
