Comments on Arsenal’s Ozil were not made by Real chief Florentino Perez.
Quotes allegedly made by Florentino Perez about Arsenal new boy Mesut Ozil have been wrongly attributed to the Real Madrid president, reports to Sport Witness.
The Daily Mail and several other news organisations claimed that Perez criticised the private life of Ozil, who left Real for North London in a £42.2m deadline day deal.
“Ozil was not a good professional,” Perez reportedly said.
“He was obsessed with women. He would go out at night with his mistresses and without sleep for hours and hours.”
However, Sport Witness has correctly identified that the quotes were not made by Perez but by Tomas Gonzalez-Martin, a journalist for Spain’s ABC.
In his article on ABC Gonzalez-Martin makes no attempt to attribute the quotes to Perez, so quite how many media outlets came to believe they were made by the Real chief is a mystery.
