Cowboys have the 16th overall pick in the draft.
NFL Network’s Mike Mayock believes that Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones won’t be able to help himself and will draft Johnny Manziel.
Mayock has published his mock draft and has the Cowboys taking Manziel with the 16th overall pick and he believes that the franchise owner will not be put off by the possible circus that will come with the former Texas A&M star.
It is also worth considering that Manziel may not even be available by the time the Cowboys come into play, as mock drafts have the prospect being picked right through the first round with some suggestions he might drop out completely.
Nevertheless, Mayock is certain that despite the likes of Tony Romo still being at the franchise, Jones will be tempted to select the young quarterback if he is still available.
“It’s Jerry’s world,” Mayock said on NFL Network. “Can Jerry Jones, and that whole Barnum & Bailey thing, pass this up? I don’t believe so.”
“I don’t think Jerry can help himself. That simple,” Mayock said.
The analyst insisted that Dallas need to address their defensive needs first but Jones likes Manziel, despite insisting earlier this week that he is happy with the depth that they have in the quarterback role currently.
However, Mayock is confident that they would find a way of integrating Manziel as a rookie with a long-term vision of him becoming the starting signal-caller, and ultimately Jones will relish the prospect of having the football world discussing his move for the young star.
