A team that was one game away from their 6th Superbowl appearance with the same coach-QB combo lost again to their old nemesis Peyton Manning. Now the Patriots are poised for a season with what may be the best roster in the AFC.
Any team that has Tom Brady leading the offense is a force to be reckoned with. But when that defense – which has led the league in turnovers for the past decade – adds arguably the best corner of this generation in Darrelle Revis, you have a recipe for what will likely be the only true contender to the Denver Broncos for AFC supremacy.
After letting star CB Aqib Talib walk in free agency, the Patriots quickly replaced – and likely improved – their DB unit by signing All-Pro CB and former nemesis Darrelle Revis, and former Seattle CB Brandon Browner, who was considered one of the best #2 corners in the league besides All-Pro Richard Sherman.
As long as Brady runs the offense the team will get more than enough yards and points to make up for any learning curves. The Patriots have won the AFC East title 5 straight times, and in 11 out of Tom Brady’s 12 seasons as the team’s full-time starter. The real competition for the Patriots won’t come until the AFC Championship game.
The Patriots report to training camp in Foxboro, Massachusetts on July 24.
