The Blues will not be bringing in the AS Monaco or FC Porto hit-man.
With rumours aplenty that Chelsea are readying bids for both AS Monaco’s Radamel Falcao and Jackson Martinez of FC Porto, Jose Mourinho has set the record straight.
The 50-year-old has revealed categorically that no strikers will be signed by the Blues in the New Year, despite the fact that their current attacking force have not been impressing.
“The Porto striker [Martinez]? What I read a couple of days ago that his agent was meeting me in London is not true,” Mourinho was quoted by Goal.
“In the January market we won’t buy any striker, we’ll go to the end of the season with Fernando, Samuel and Demba Ba.”
Samuel Eto’o has failed to truly deliver on the goal-scoring form the three-time Champions League winner has shown in the past since arriving from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer.
Fernando Torres has shown glimpses of brilliance however – most notably the match-winning performance against Manchester City in the Premier League – but has not been consistent enough yet again.
Meanwhile Demba Ba has had limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge this season and has been strongly linked with a move away from west London.
These comments from Mourinho will of course send out confidence to the trio, although the fans may be disappointed that neither of the Colombian superstars will be strutting their stuff at the club.
Both Falcao and Martinez are proven goal-scorers at the very top of the game and with transfers for either a realistic possibility, it would be a shame for them to pass by.
