Evans dismisses any dealings with the media from the ‘Special One.’
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was well known for a series of mind games with Manchester United during the 50-year-old’s first term in England, but defender Jonny Evans tells the coach not to bother this time around.
Despite only having been in charge of the Blues for two competitive matches, Mourinho has already managed to rub the Red Devils up the wrong way.
Firstly, the west London club continue to try and sign United’s unsettled forward Wayne Rooney and then, the Portuguese boss told reporters that the Premier League champions’ victory in 2012/13 could not be classed as ‘great.’
Evans however is choosing not to pay too much attention to what the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan maestro is saying.
“It’s all just mind games, really,” the centre-back was quoted in the Mirror.
“It’s maybe his way of trying to unsettle us, but we don’t read too much into that kind of thing and, as players, we laugh at that kind of thing.
“Everyone’s been saying that he will make a big difference to Chelsea but we’ll have to wait and see if that will be the case.
“I think Mourinho had that spell at Chelsea where he gave them a lot of confidence and they were successful at that time. But it remains to be seen if he can have that impact again.”
United and Chelsea come up against each other for the first time in the new campaign on Monday, when Mourinho will lead his team at Old Trafford against new boss David Moyes.
It will be an interesting contest, with the two-time Champions League winner triumphing seven times over the Red Devils during the manager’s lasts spell at Stamford Bridge – and losing only twice.
Moyes meanwhile has much to prove after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson following the Scot’s 26-and-a-half year tenure in charge.
