City could swoop for Adnan Januzaj…
Manchester City could try to sign Manchester United’s young Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj, reports the Mirror.
The 18-year-old Belgian wonderkid is the highly regarded by United, and he has made cameo appearances this season in the Community Shield victory over Wigan and the comfortable Premier League victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The winger came on in the 67th minute, ahead of England internationals Wilfired Zaha and Tom Cleverley – and impressed the Old Trafford faithful once more.
Big clubs have long been interested in Januzaj, but City’s interest will worry United, as the youngster has only 9 months remaining. This means that come January, City, or any other club, could approach to sign him on a free transfer with or without United’s permission.
David Moyes will have learnt from Sir Alex Ferguson’s lesson, where Paul Pogba slipped through their fingers. United wouldn’t meet his wage demands, so the French midfielder joined Juventus, and quickly became regarded as a top-class player. Pogba now starts for France, and is worth in advance of £20m.
Whether City need the 18-year-old winger with their wealth of attacking midfield talent is another question. New signing Stevan Jovetic only made his first City start in Saturday’s drab 0-0 draw with Stoke, and with David Silva, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas also competing for starting spots – it seems as though the acquisition of Januzaj would be more to annoy their rivals than to strengthen their playing staff.
