The supporter is clearly not an advocate of the young full-back.
One of the biggest stories of Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday was not the result, but Brendan Rodgers’ decision to play Jon Flanagan.
In fact one Reds fan was so incensed with the decision that he refused to even watch the match, despite being a supporter for over 60 years.
The man rang up BBC FiveLive’s 606 programme and asked to speak to Robbie Savage as the former Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City man ‘knows football.’
It was Flanagan’s first appearance of the season, but many – including the angry fan and Savage – felt that Kolo Toure should have been pushed out as a wing-back and Daniel Agger played in a central defensive role.
As it was the Dane had to watch on from the bench as Toure, Flanagan and co were undone by a Gunners side in great form.
Rodgers has been praised for the Merseyside club’s current form and new three-man defensive formation, but the 40-year-old has won no friends after fielding the young Englishman.
As expected, the Twitterati didn’t take long to make their opinions of Flanagan known either.
Whoa..Johnson out? Who the hell is Flanagan? I’m liking this development… go get him @_OlivierGiroud_ … #Afc #LFC

I need to calm down really. I didn’t think we’d win before a duffer like Flanagan was picked and I don’t think we will now, so…

I don’t even know Flanagan’s first name.
