With Aaron Rodgers firing, the Green Bay Packers have secured four consecutive victories ahead of their clash with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Their slow 1-2 start to the season is a distant memory now with Rodgers throwing for 977 yards and 13 touchdowns without an interception during this win streak.
In addition, he posted the second-highest passer rating of his career, 154.5, in last week’s 38-17 rout of the Carolina Panthers, which followed on from his inspired play against the Miami Dolphins the previous week.
Jordy Nelson has unsurprisingly been the biggest benefactor of Rodgers play as he ranks second in the NFL with 712 receiving yards, while team-mate Randall Cobb is second in touchdowns with eight.
In contrast, the Saints are looking to avoid their worst seven-game start to a season under Sean Payton, but despite their poor start they are still in playoff contention in the NFC South with Carolina leading the way at 3-3-1.
However, Payton will want to see improvements sooner rather than later with New Orleans allowing 27.5 points per game which ranks as fifth-worst in the NFL. The Saints have also had trouble in holding on to leads as they squandered a fourth-quarter lead for the third time last week against the Detroit Lions who rallied for two late touchdowns in the 24-23 win.
Jimmy Graham continues to struggle with a shoulder injury which limited him in practice on Wednesday, with quarterback Drew Brees failing to complete a pass to him in last week’s loss.
Nevertheless, the Saints will be hopeful or turning things around, especially at home, but their history with the Packers suggests that it will be tough going.
The Packers edged them out in a 28-27 win in their most recent meeting with Rodgers producing some late magic to secure the result. Green Bay lead the all-time series 16-7.
