Sturridge has bagged two in two, but shouldn’t even be playing as he’s still crocked…
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge claims that despite his blistering start to the season, he shouldn’t even be playing as he’s still injured, he told Liverpool’s official website.
The 23-year-old England striker has quickly become one of Liverpool’s key players, deputising for the suspended Luis Suarez superbly. In the Reds’ opening two Premier League matches, Sturridge has bagged the winning goal – but still reckons he’s a long way from his best.
When asked about why he’s playing so well, Sturridge said: “I don’t know! I’m just trying to enjoy myself and not putting any pressure on myself. It’s about not playing with any pressures or worries.
“I’m not 100 per cent, I still feel my ankle when I’m playing and fitness-wise I’m not there yet.
“But it’s going to come and I’m blessed to even be playing now because realistically I should still be injured.”
Sturridge has bagged 13 Premier League goals for the Reds since his January arrival, and has thrived in a central striking position he was deprived off at Chelsea.
Brendan Rodgers has undoubtedly got the best out of the pacey forward, and the £12m Liverpool spent on him is already looking like one of the bargains of last season.
