Manchester United’s fall from grace
Replacing Ferguson at Old Trafford was never going to be an easy task, as the Scot had reinvented the Red Devils during more than a quarter of a century in charge.
As reigning champions however nobody thought that David Moyes’ tenure would be quite so disappointing after inheriting a team that had won the league at a canter just 12 months earlier.
With the season drawing to a close it is more-or-less excepted among United fans now that their team won’t make the top tier of European football – for the first time since 1995.
Moyes has received much of the criticism, but in fairness it’s perhaps more credit to Fergie and his coaching staff for what they achieved with these players, as opposed to what his successor can not.
