The Toffees want Bertrand from Stamford Bridge.
With Leighton Baines looking increasingly more likely of joining Manchester United, Everton are eyeing up Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand as a replacement for the left-back, according to the Mirror.
Liverpool have already tried and failed to convince the Blues to allow Bertrand to leave for Merseyside on a loan deal, but the Toffees will test the west London’s side’s resolve with a £7m offer.
The 24-year-old has been Ashley Cole’s understudy for seven years since breaking into the club’s first team in the same year that Cole was signed from Arsenal.
Since then Bertrand has spent time on-loan at five different sides including Norwich City and Reading, but has also managed to make 54 first team appearances for the Blues in all competitions which included starting the side’s triumphant Champions League final in 2012.
However, despite having earned two caps for the England national team, the full-back is not getting the opportunities at Stamford Bridge and could well be open to a move away.
Roberto Martinez has eyed up Bertrand as the prospect of having nobody at the left side of defence becomes more and more of a reality.
The Red Devils are avidly in pursuit of Baines and the full-back could well be tempted by a switch to Old Trafford, despite having so much success with Everton.
The 28-year-old was once again named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2013 and is fast becoming first choice ahead of Cole for the national team.
