Chelsea are ready to overhaul their playing squad in major fashion this summer by allowing up to eight of their most famous players to leave.
According to the Daily Mirror, club owner Roman Abramovich has accepted manager Jose Mourinho’s explanation that all four of the Blues’ strikers are not of requisite quality – meaning that Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku are set to be sold.
Mourinho also wants rid of defender-cum-midfielder David Luiz, with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich leading the chase for the £35 million rated Brazilian if FC Barcelona’s appeal against their transfer ban is unsuccessful.
John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard are all out of contract in the summer, and while their futures remain shrouded in uncertainty, replacements are already in place for each.
Kurt Zouma was bought in January as a long term successor for Terry at centre half, Cesar Azpilicueta has taken Ashley Cole’s position at left back, and 21 year-old Marco Van Ginkel was lined up to do Frank Lampard’s job last summer for the coming years.
Lastly, with the Blues hoping to attract some big names to Stamford Bridge this summer, the Mirror rather sensationally claim that one of Eden Hazard or Oscar could be sold.
The expected fire sale at Chelsea this summer is to fund some big spending without breaching UEFA’s financial fair play regulations, and the Blues have some exciting transfer targets in mind.
