The Scot believes Mourinho could have been the perfect fit at Old Trafford.
New Manchester United manager David Moyes believes that the Scot’s opposite number at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, would have been ideal for the Premier League champions.
After Sir Alex Ferguson announced the legendary boss would be retiring after 26-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford at the end of last season, Mourinho was one of the favourites to take over.
However, the ex-Real Madrid coach was bypassed for Moyes and instead went back to Stamford Bridge after six years away from west London.
Yet the new United boss thinks that the 50-year-old would have been ideal for the Red Devils.
“Of the young modern managers, Jose is probably the best. He would be in the running for all the top jobs,” Moyes was quoted by the Mirror
“As a coach, you’ve got to get the balance right between attack and defence. That’s where the most successful coaches come in and Jose has done that over the years.”
The two managers will go head-to-head for the first time in 2013/14 on Monday night, as United host the Blues at the Theatre of Dreams.
The match is being billed as a big occasion and it is a chance for one of the two coaches to gain an advantage in the title race over the counterpart.
Both clubs have started the new league campaign strongly, with United beating Swansea City 1-4 at the Liberty Stadium, whilst Mourinho’s men have claimed maximum points from games with Hull City and Aston Villa.
