Kagawa did not take part in the loss to the Magpies after eating too much.
In perhaps one of the weirder stories from the weekend Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa missed the Premier League match with Newcastle United after having the player’s stomach pumped.
The Red Devils slumped to their second successive home loss against the Magpies on Saturday and manager David Moyes revealed after the match that Kagawa had not played because the 24-year-old had gone to hospital after eating too much.
“All of the stats that we look at were low so we felt we had better not take a risk in case we got an injury by playing him,” the 50-year-old was quoted by ITV.
“It was a bad sickness. He thinks he ate too much, and he had to get his stomach pumped, but I think he is okay.”
The Japan international was substituted against Everton midweek and later claimed to be feeling unwell, after a game that United also lost at Old Trafford.
Kagawa has enjoyed some improved form this season after struggling during the attacking midfielder’s first year at the club.
The Japanese star has made 12 appearances in all competitions after being linked with a return to former side Borussia Dortmund.
However, the midfield ace has not saved the English champions to slumping into a poor run of form, with the side currently in ninth position and 12 points off leaders Arsenal.
If the Gunners were to win their game against Everton then that lead would extend to 15 points and the chances of United retaining their title would become very slim.
