Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has suggested that it may not yet be the end of road for 33-year old English defender Ashley Cole at Stamford Bridge, reports the Daily Star.
The Portuguese insists that he has not had time to speak with Cole about his future at Chelsea, and that he would speak with the left-back soon.
Cole’s contract with the Blues expires this month, but the former Arsenal man hinted after Chelsea’s final home game last season that he may not continue with West Londoners. Cole had tweeted earlier, “I am weighing up my options for playing next season with my agent and sadly it does not look like Chelsea will be one of them.”
Cole is still rated as one of the best defenders in England, and although Chelsea are looking to replace the former England international with a younger prospect, it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho can persuade the veteran to stay one more year at Stamford Bridge and as a result postpone his own search for a new left back.
