Gunners set to complete deal for Ciprian Marica next week.
Arsenal are ‘close’ to signing free agent Ciprian Marica, according to the agent of the Romanian striker.
The 27-year-old left Schalke earlier this summer and has been linked with Shakhtar Donetsk, Lazio and Inter Milan.
His agent Ioan Becali said: “Marica is a really great striker who has already got experience in western European football and so it’s natural that big clubs are eyeing his career. He’s close to joining Arsenal , but we have to wait for the next week.”
Marica has bagged 22 goals in 63 appearances for Romania but struggled in his two seasons at the Veltins Arena, managing just five Bundesliga goals.
The Gunners are short of bodies up front after failing to land a new striker during the summer transfer window. The club were linked with Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suarez and Demba Ba but only signed France under-20 international Yaya Sanogo.
Olivier Giroud has started the season in superb form but, with Lukas Podolski injured and doubts over Theo Walcott’s fitness after he limped out of England’s draw with Ukraine on Tuesday, Nicklas Bendter is currently the only senior back up to the Frenchman.
