Real Madrid got off to a winning start in the 2011/12 La Liga season with a 4-0 win over Real Zaragoza at La Romareda.
Cristiano Ronaldo took just 24 minutes to score his first goal of the La Liga season when a superbly executed counter-attack saw Mesut Ozil play the Portuguese superstar in on goal and he made no mistake. Jose Mourinho’s side doubled their lead four minutes later when a Sergio Ramos cross fell to the feet of the marauding Marcelo who slotted the ball into the corner of the net.
Los Merengues continued to dominate in the second half – clocking up over 30 shots at goal in total – and they extended their lead when former Liverpool star Xabi Alonso drilled the ball home from 25 yards. Ronaldo then scored his second goal, converting a cross from Angel Di Maria before substitute Kaka got in on the action with thunderous shot eight minutes before the end.
The rout was complete when the Brazilian’s shot was parried into the path of Ronaldo who wrapped up his hat-trick from a yard out.
