Manchester City’s Joe Hart is widely recognized as one of the elite goalkeepers in the Premier League and one of the best in Europe. But even a four-time Golden Glove winner isn’t immune to the occasional moment of absolute stupidity.
Against Norwich City, the Citizens were leading 1-0 heading into the final 15 minutes of the match. A weak cross from Canaries defender Robbie Brady landed squarely in the hands of Hart. But in one of the strangest sequences fans at Etihad Stadium had likely seen in years, Hart inexplicably dropped the ball – and then this happened:
After dropping the ball like a hot potato, Norwich F Cameron Jerome saw his opportunity and took it, making the score from point-blank range and tying the game at 1-1 with less than ten minutes remaining.
The play was so bad you can visibly see Man City defender Nicolas Otamendi facepalming.
Fortunately for Hart, a timely error by Norwich City led to a successful penalty kick for Man City MF Yaya Toure, which he promptly converted into a 2-1 game-winning score in the final minutes.
In the end, Hart will likely be forgiven for his blunder since Man City won the match – but he probably owes Toure an expensive dinner on his tab.
