Argentinian off the mark for Serie A giants.
Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has scored his first goal for the club in their 2-1 win in the friendly against Benfica on Friday night.
There was a celebration at the San Paolo ahead of the game, with club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis putting on a party atmosphere with fireworks, dance routines and the unveiling of the club cheerleaders.
Valon Behrami gave the hosts the lead before Luisao equalised as Pepe Reina conceded his first goal since arriving in Naples.
However, “Pipita” got himself off the mark for his new club with a tap in from a Pablo Armero assist, as he found himself in the right place at the right time.
“I am very happy to have scored my first goal at the San Paolo,” he said after the game as reported by Football Italia.
“I really hoped to score tonight and to give my first goal to the fans. I managed it and I am really happy.
“Hearing the noise of the crowd at my goal and them chanting my name was an amazing experience, it gave me goosebumps.
“I thank the Neapolitans for this splendid evening and for all the warmth they are giving me,” he concluded.
The 25-year-old will hope to take the confidence of breaking his duck into the new season, as he has effectively been handed the task of replacing Edinson Cavani, who scored 29 goals in Serie A last season.
Nevertheless, coach Rafa Benitez has a number of options in attack, and will hope to see Higuain strike up a relationship with the likes of Lorenzo Insigne, Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens.
