Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has described the 2-1 away win over bitter rivals Inter as ‘fundamental’.
Goals from Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio either side of a strike from Maicon were enough to give the Bianconeri all three points in the Derby d’Italia as they continue to lead the way at the top of Serie A.
“This victory is fundamental, in addition to its value for the table,” Marotta told Juventus’ official website.
“The team’s play and results have been characterised by our fitness levels. I think that this is an important feature to stress.
“We’re looking at the table now and we consider it the outcome of hard work carried out by both the club and Conte. The future is clearer than the recent past.”
Following Milan’s win over Roma on Saturday night, Conte’s men are two points clear at the top of the table, with rivals Udinese and Lazio looking to the close the gap on Sunday.
Meanwhile, former Inter director Gabriele Oriali admitted his former club are in deep trouble after yet another defeat.
“Tonight could’ve been the turning point of our campaign, but it wasn’t the case” Oriali told reporters after the game. “Now we’ve got to worry because the table is a depressing sight.”
Inter are currently 16th in Serie A and could be dragged into the relegation zone should results go against them on Sunday.
