Tottenham will make an approach for Schalke hitman Klaas Jan Huntelaar to bolster their strike force next season.
The Netherlands international has had an exotic career having played for Ajax, Real Madrid and AC Milan – a trio of European aristocracy boasting 20 European Cups between them – but has flattered to deceive at all bar the Dutch giants. A move to Gelsenkirchen has helped him rediscover his eye for goal and attract the attention of Harry Redknapp in the process.
However, Spurs could face a tough task persuading the Bundesliga club to sell with their manager Ralf Rangnick stating: “Klaas has a contract with us and there is no reason to think about something like that (selling him). It is like asking me if I want to sell the stadium.”
Strong words from the boss but Tottenham will hope the lure of playing in London alongside international team mate Rafael van der Vaart and in the UEFA Europa League could appeal to the 27-year-old and are weighing uop an opening bid of £13m.
