Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar has had surgery on a groin injury and will now be out of action for the next six weeks.
The South Africa international started the pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao, but was unable to continue beyond around the 20 minute mark and was replaced by Luka Modric.
Pienaar’s surgery was successful, but how Harry Redknapp copes with his absence could prove interesting.
Spurs have other players who can play in Pienaar’s position, but should Luka Modric depart for Chelsea, or other injuries to key men occur, Tottenham’s situation might become more complicated.
