Tottenham Hotspur are discussing a potential bid for SS Lazio and Argentina international striker Mauro Zarate – but have been warned that he will not come cheap.
Zarate’s agent – the excellently named Beppe Bozzo – claims that several clubs are interested in his client, who of course enjoyed a decent spell at Birmingham City in 2008, and Spurs are thought to be amongst those sides.
“Many teams are interested in Zarate, but none of them have made the offer needed for a sale,” Bozzo is quoted as saying to Itasportpress.it.
“Lazio do not want to sell him for anything under 20m Euros (approximately £17.5m), but no club has offered this amount.”
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is thought to be in the market for a player who is able to play up front on his own, with none of Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko all seemingly not quite to his satisfaction.
Mauro Zarate offers build up play not seen at White Hart Lane since the days of Dimitar Berbatov, but Tottenham will attempt to haggle his asking price before making a move.
