Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Real Madrid star Lassana Diarra before the end of the week, according to the Daily Mail.
With Wilson Palacios set to depart for Stoke City, Diarra is a fairly obvious replacement, but the Frenchman is a cut above the Honduras international.
Diarra – seemingly on a one-man mission to play for every club in England after spells at Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth (where he was signed by Harry Redknapp) – is a better passer of the ball than Palacios.
What’s more, he is a hugely versatile footballer.
As well as in the anchor midfield role, Diarra can play at right back, on the wing, or even behind a striker.
He would certainly be an upgrade for Tottenham, and Spurs fans will be delighted at making their first major move of the summer.
