Tottenham could miss out on the signature of Diego Forlan after Inter Milan expressed an interest in bringing him to the San Siro.
The Atletico Madrid striker had a disappointing last campaign in La Liga, netting just eight times in 32 appearances to start talk that his powers were waning. However, his performances for Uruguay were instrumental in the country winning the 2011 Copa America in which they knocked out hosts – and pre-tournament favourites – Argentina on the way.
Tottenham have been interested in the 32-year-old striker for the past 12 months having a bid rejected for his services in January. With manager Harry Redknapp keen to add new faces to his attack, a renewed approach was expected but they might find themselves jostled out of position by Inter Milan.
The Nerazzurri have seen Samuel Eto’o depart to Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala and are looking to replace the Cameroon international. No formal offer has been made so Spurs could still steal in though the former Manchester United man would prefer a move to Italy over England after his travails at Old Trafford.
