AC Milan are set to make a £12 million January move for Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Van der Vaart, 28, arrived at White Hart Lane in August 2010 and immediately made an impact becoming a firm fans favourite.
However, following his omission from the Europa League squad and continued strained relationship with Redknapp, who has changed his tactical approach preferring to play with both Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe, it is claimed that the Dutchman is set to leave.
Despite scoring in yesterday’s 2-1 win at Wigan, Van der Vaart only started the game after Defoe was taken ill before the game. However, Holland team-mate Theo Janssen has reportedly leaked details of a potentially damaging text.
Janssen said: “I was taken off in the Champions League against Olympique Lyon and I was really angry. The next moment I received a text message from Rafael, who said he was wondering if I happened to have the same contract as he has at Spurs.
“I asked him what kind of contract that was? He answered: ‘One which states that you are only allowed to play 70 minutes in each match.’”
It is clear that Van der Vaart is far from happy with his current bit-part role at Spurs, and with wife Sylvie reportedly looking to break into Italian television, the Sunday Mirror reporting she has attended a photo shoot with a popular Italian magazine, suggests both Van der Vaarts are happy to make the switch to Milan.
