West Ham are reportedly closing on the signing of David Bentley from Tottenham.
Despite the two clubs being at loggerheads over the their battle to move into the Olympic Stadium – with Spurs winning the right to a judicial review after the Hammers cwon the race – and the two clubs never being the nest of friends historically, business has already been done today regarding Scott Parker. The England international has moved to White Hart Lane for around £5m and now West Ham are hoping to take Bentley in return.
The former Blackburn and Arsenal player has endured a torrid time since moving to Spurs, losing the confidence of manager Harry Redknapp and therefore his place in the team, His decision not to take part in the Under 21 European Championships in 2009 in order to avoid risking burn-out now looks even more horribly misplaced than it was two years ago and he will hope that he can get his career back on track should he move to Upton Park.
Once named as the natural successor to David Beckham in the England team, Bentley will be glad just to be a first team regular and hope he can help lift the Hammers back into thre Premier League.
