Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has insisted he never thought about leaving the club, despite being linked with some of Europe’s top clubs.
Bale, 22, caught the attention of Europe’s finest last season, including the likes of Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Manchester United, particularly with his performances in the Champions League.
However, after signing a new deal in March keeping him at the club until 2015, Bale has now revealed he never considered leaving Harry Redknapp’s side.
“I never really thought about leaving Tottenham in the summer. I just signed a new deal and I’m enjoying my football,” Bale told Sky Sports News.
“I’m playing well and I’m playing regularly. The main thing for me, I’m still young, is that I want to be playing week in, week out and getting better, and I’m still at an age where I can keep improving.”
The Welshman also pointed out the influence Redknapp had on his decision, revealing he is thriving under his guidance and his approach to how he wants his side to play.
“He lets all the players express themselves, and for a manager to give you that kind of licence there is nothing better,” he continued.
Bale will be hoping to help Spurs secure all three points this weekend as they host Liverpool at White Hart Lane, but admits it will be a difficult task.
“We know what they are capable of. They have beaten Arsenal already and are going to be contenders for the top four, so we’re going to have to be right at the peak of our game,” he said.
