Welsh music legend Tom Jones and English chart-topper Ed Sheeran will perform at this year’s AFL Grand Final.
Both Jones and Sheeran will travel to Melbourne specifically for the pre-game show at the MCG on September 27, the AFL announced on Monday.
“I understand there will be over 100,000 people in the stadium for the grand final which makes this spectacular sporting event something I’m really looking forward to,” Jones said in a statement.
“I also know that Australian football has really passionate fans so it’ll be great to be a part of the atmosphere and excitement on the day.”
Fairfax Media quote Ed Sheeran as saying that he was looking forward to singing in front of a packed MCG.
“Having spent some time in Australia recently I know just how popular the game is and how big an event this will be.”
In a change to previous years, the performances will be staged pre-match, not at half-time.
Australian Olivia Newton-John will perform the national anthem.
