Argentinian striker sparks excitement ahead of official unveiling.
Napoli’s friendly with Galatasaray is expected to be sold-out as supporters flock to the San Paolo to greet new signing Gonzalo Higuain.
The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year deal earlier this week, after completing a move which is reported to be worth around €40m including bonuses.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis tweeted a photo of the pair signing the contracts on Saturday, and it has been revealed that both Higuain and fellow new signing Pepe Reina will be unveiled to the club’s supporters ahead of the friendly with Galatasaray on Monday.
“Higuain and [Pepe] Reina have passed their medicals and will soon join the rest of the group,” the 64-year-old confirmed on Twitter.
“On Monday there will be a big party at the San Paolo. You will be able to get to know the new players and the new shirts.”
Following the announcement, it is understood that 50,000 tickets have already been sold for the unveiling, which will also allow supporters entry to the friendly game as reported by Goal.com.
Higuain arrives after scoring 122 goals in six seasons for Real Madrid, and will have the enviable task of replacing Edinson Cavani in Naples, with the Uruguayan securing a switch to PSG last week.
The widespread excitement is likely to culminate in the pre-game unveiling on Monday, and it will undoubtedly draw comparisons to the passionate welcome enjoyed by Higuain’s country-man Diego Maradona back in 1984.
The Argentinian legend has already welcomed the news of Higuain’s switch to Naples, wishing the player, club and supporters the best of luck as they look to build on their second placed finish in Serie A last season.
